5440 vs GGG
5440 and GGG are making a record together. Lead singer Neil Osborne is as much of a Canucks fan as GGG is a Leafs fan, which led to a friendly wager. Both are putting their album fees on the line, and the winner is Music Heals. Music Heals is a new charity that supports Music Therapy programs, which are close to the heart of both Neil and GGG. Click HERE to below to watch the video that details on the bet, and subscribe to the YouTube channel for video updates from GGG and the band. All money raised will go to music therapy programs chosen by them.

Juno Nominees
Nimbus students & staff contributed to 2 albums that are up for a total of 5 Juno Awards!
We are very proud of Rob Sommerfeldt, Paul Dutil and Jennifer Zall, who all assisted on Matthew Good's "Lights Of Endangered Species" (Rock Album of the Year); and Scott Ord and Mike McLaughlin who assisted on Hedley's "Storms" (Pop Album of the Year, Single of the Year, Fan Choice Award, Group of the Year), which was partially engineered by instructor Ben Kaplan. Jennifer Zall also sang on the Matthew Good album. How's is that for extra curriculum?

The Next Generation of Musicians

One Sweet Reference Letter
How's this for a letter of reference? We received the following from Steve Bays of Hot Hot Heat, regarding Nimbus student Cam Tatham.
"I recently recruited Nimbus student Cam Tatham as an intern. His knowledge and attitude was far beyond what I expected, given that he was only halfway through the course when we first started working together. In the last five months his scope of involvement has expanded from helping set up mixes to engineering/tracking live bands, comping, editing, programming, and providing me his help and opinions on production and songwriting. He is now my paid assistant and has credits on multiple records.
The combination of his great work ethic and attitude and a Nimbus education has made him a legitimate professional in my books"
- Steve Bays (Hot Hot Heat vocalist & Producer/Engineer/Mix Engineer)

The Garth Richardson-produced album "Only Revolutions" by Biffy Clyro - one of the 12 finalists for the UK's prestigious Mercury Prize.
The Barclaycard Mercury Prize is awarded annually based on musical quality, and does not take into account album sales or media profile. Unlike awards such as the Grammy's or Junos, which honour the year's best album in categories like best Pop, Rock or Jazz separately, the Mercury Prize crosses all musical genres. Other 2010 nominees incliude Corinne Bailey Rae, Dizzie Rascall, Paul Weller and Mumford and Sons. The winner will be announced on September 7th.
"Only Revolutions was a wonderful record to work on", says Richardson. "It was refreshing to work with Simon, Ben and James, three talented visionaries. I am honored, as a Canadian, to be a part of this and to be nominated for such a prestigious award. Having this work nominated for the Mercury Prize gives me hope and faith that we are, in fact, still making records for the right reasons."
This is Garth's second album with Biffy.

Garth with Ben Kaplan, Joshua Homme (Them Crooked Vultures and Queens of the Stone Age), Alex Gilbert (Head A&R Warner Bros UK and 14th Floor Records), Simon, Ben and James (Biffy Clyro) in LA. The making of Only Revolutions.
