MUSIC PRODUCTION,

recording & Business
Learning for the future

The rate of change in today’s global digital economy is faster than anything the world has seen in 300 years. As more and more industries undergo digital transformation, the adoption of machine learning, automation and artificial intelligence will only accelerate this digital metamorphosis.

This panoramic shift means the demand for a new breed of music professional is on the rise. Employers are looking for innovative and adaptable team members that excel at critical thinking, collaboration and problem solving. The traditional education system isn’t equipped to produce these individuals fast enough to keep up with the new demands. That’s where we come in.

An overview of roles and responsibilities coupled with current industry practices lay the groundwork for the program. Students are introduced to the physical basis of audio, the psychology of sound, analog and digital signal flow, and concepts around recording.

SEMESTER 2

Building on the theory, concepts and tools introduced in term one, students learn to implement these ideas within engineering, mixing and editing through in-depth courses on sound design, songwriting and synthesis. Students learn basic software implementation and technique, and begin introductory classes on the business aspects of the industry.

SEMESTER 3

Advanced concepts are introduced through practical work that moves toward supporting your final project. Students participate in classes and workshops designed to round out their specialty and understanding of how it aligns with the industry. Students learn about online sales, best practices and the potential challenges of marketing yourself online.

SEMESTER 4

You are presented with advanced concepts in all tracks through more practical work that supports your final project. You will participate in advanced classes and workshops that round out your specialty in Electronic Music Production, Audio Engineering, Music Production, or Music Business and provide a better understanding as to how that aligns with the industry area you wish to pursue. Learn best practices for creating social interactions & responding to potential challenges.

SEMESTER 5

Instruction in large-scale music recording, mixing and production is a large focus of session 5. This term includes additional specialized courses and workshops required to accelerate knowledge on large-scale mixing consoles, such as the SSL and the Avid S6. Students evolve from following specific technical instruction to becoming more self directed and capable of applying complex techniques to their final project.

SEMESTER 6

The final stretch before graduation leaves students immersed in completing their final music project and portfolio. Your final project is shared with your program mentors and advisors. Finally, students are given in-depth instruction in professional skills, including resume writing, personal branding and building a business to guide them from graduation into the workforce.

THE NIMBUS
ADVANTAGE
DIGITAL TOOLS

At Nimbus, students don’t just learn how to record: they will also gain a digital certainty that empowers them to change the world. Our students learn from the ground up, gaining a greater understanding of how computers, hardware, software and networks work, both individually and together, that rivals that of a computer science degree. They're ready for the real world and have the experience and tools to create and change technology through projects that truly represent their passion.

BUSINESS
FREEDOM

When you have the tools to change a digital world, you have the freedom to alter what you don’t like and improve it. The two most important skills you learn at Nimbus are resourcefulness and autonomy. In the digital world, the absence of freedom is a dependence on others for knowledge and learning. We give you the tools to harness the resources at your disposal to achieve your objectives. These traits aren't inherent outcomes of traditional educational systems, but they're required to thrive in our world today.

ELIMINATING
THE SKILLS GAP

The bar is set high in today’s digital world and the traditional education system hasn’t caught up. Employers want critical and analytic thinkers, problem solvers, creatives and those who excel at communication, collaboration and time management. We focus on cultivating these skills, so our students not only have a smooth transition into the industry, they thrive in it.

PROJECT-BASED
LEARNING

Each project begins as a challenge – with a brief description, objectives and skills students will learn throughout the project. Project-based work imitates real-world work and encourages students to not just learn time management, but also to build conceptual frameworks of what is and is not important or relevant to a project. This skill of being able to establish structures and boundaries for projects is central to becoming an excellent producer, engineer, or music business person, and pushes students to think critically and learn through failure.

REVOLUTIONIZED
EDUCATIONAL
MODEL

The digital revolution has changed how we access knowledge, and our education systems must adapt. Our curriculum at Nimbus is structured based on the new access to knowledge, the future of the workplace and today’s digital world. We apply practical problem-solving methods that aren’t restricted by age groups, while fostering personalized learning and a strong emphasis on self-appropriation of knowledge.
